If you are setting up a new PC, one of the most important pieces of equipment that you’ll need to purchase is a keyboard. However, with so many keyboards with different features on the market, it can be difficult to choose which to purchase.
This guide will teach you about several of the most important features that you should look for when picking your new keyboard.
Features To Look For
Here is a list of the most important features to look for when picking a new keyboard.
Keyboard Switches
Keyboard switches are the devices that go beneath each key. For the key to work, you must press the key hard enough for the switch to be triggered.
There are three types of keyboard switches available on the market, silicone domes, scissor switches, and mechanical switches. Silicone dome switches are the cheapest and mechanical switches are the most expensive.

Wired or Wireless
Keyboards can be either wired or wireless. Wired keyboards are faster however, you are not able to use them away from the desktop.
Wireless keyboards allow you to move away from the desktop, however, they are battery-powered and need to be charged regularly. They are also not as fast as wired keyboards.
Ergonomic or Standard
Keyboards come in two main designs, standard design and ergonomic design. Standard designs are more inexpensive. However, over time they can cause unnecessary strain on the wrists and fingers.
Ergonomic keyboard designs are at an angle that prevents excess strain and also are split to allow for less strain on the fingers.
